Living in Philadelphia
Philadelphia is the most walkable of the large American cities, because William Penn laid it out on a grid between two rivers and nobody has been able to sprawl it since. Our residences are at Arrive in Center City, which is the middle of that grid and within walking distance of most of what the city has.
Center City runs from the Delaware to the Schuylkill with City Hall at the crossing. Rittenhouse Square sits west with the restaurants around it, Old City east with Independence Hall and the galleries, and the Avenue of the Arts runs south from City Hall with the Kimmel Center and the theatres.
The practical arguments are transit and price. Thirtieth Street Station puts New York about eighty minutes away and Washington about two hours on Amtrak, SEPTA covers the city and reaches the airport in twenty minutes, and Philadelphia costs materially less than either city it sits between.
It is also a genuine food city, and has been for longer than the recent attention suggests — the Italian Market, the BYOs around Rittenhouse and Reading Terminal Market, which is the best argument for living inside the grid.
